First, I searched different page layouts of a magazine cover page and try to get some inspiration of the fact book cover composition.

After I did some research on the cover pages, I started browsing for the inside page layouts. Including different paragraph styles, color usage, and image composition.

Because we need to include a map of the country inside of the fact book, I did some research on fun ways of interpreting a map, too. These are my inspirations, I am also trying to use the lines on the map as the grids for my page layout.

I understand that this project needs to include a lot of statistic data, so I did some research on how to visualize all the statistic information.

After my research, I started sketching out some the ideas that I first had. Including the usage of the gridlines.

I downloaded the information text file from CIA world fact book page, and I created a text flow file in InDesign.

I have 14 pages of information in total.

After I created my indesign document, I immediately created my gridlines on my master pages. 

I sketched out my some layout ideas I had before, but the page size was not correct. So I decided to take a screen shot of my document after the guidelines were set and then use procreate brush to sketch my layout following the guides.

After I complete my sketches of several pages, I started placing the images and text using the same guides and layouts in InDesign.
